About Britain’s Biggest Model Railway!

Featuring widely in the mainstream press from 2021 onwards, this amazing 200ft (55 metre) long masterpiece is soon to be relaunched with a huge new extension!

Requiring 6 articulated trucks to move it, BBMR is set to tour the U.K. taking in existing tourist attractions and out of town shopping centres - providing a major attraction to families.

Phase 1 of BBMR was constructed between 2013 and 2020 and is an astonishingly accurate and super detailed giant model of a real West Yorkshire main line set in the 1980’s.

The creator and builder Simon George spent many happy hours watching heavy freight trains at this busy location - which in reality is near the town of Mirfield, West Yorkshire & known as Heaton Lodge Junction.

In 2013 Simon began re-creating this location in incredible detail despite its huge 55 metre length. Utilising a larger scale than the much more common OO gauge, Heaton Lodge is depicted in the large O gauge which means the trains themselves are heavier, longer and arguably far more realistic. All the locomotives are fitted with real sound replicating the real thing as well as diesel ‘smoke’.

Announced in 2021 Phase 1 appeared in all the mainstream media including prime time slots on BBC Breakfast, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky.

Phase 2..

Phase 2 is an exciting new extension that has been carefully constructed over the last few years to include far more giant buildings, moving traffic, working main line stations and much much more.

As an example the model cooling towers which form part of a power station are over 4 metres high!

Aimed squarely at families this enormous public attraction will ‘wow’ audiences throughout the U.K from early 2027. Children will love the ‘Thomas’ tank loco as well as being able to operate some trains themselves and ‘drive’ mechanical radio controlled excavators.

There’s something for everyone at Britains Biggest (Portable) Model Railway!

“To get Heaton Lodge Junction exactly right, I downloaded hundreds of images of the real 1980s junction and used them as a guide to translate a childhood memory into a practical, fully-operational model railway.”
